Our Roots

Synergo was founded in 1994, providing experiential outdoor adventures to the Portland community. From these humble Pacific Northwest roots, co-owners Erik and Jennifer Marter have grown the organization over nearly 30 years into an internationally recognized team specializing in the aerial adventure industry. Today Synergo is an accredited full-service organization and a Professional Vendor Member of the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT), the nationally recognized standards-setting organization for the challenge course industry.

Our Experience

With nearly 30 years of experience Synergo has designed, built, managed and operated challenge courses and commercial adventure tours. Our experience facilitating programs, operating tours and our long involvement with the Association for Challenge Course Technology (ACCT) gives us unique perspectives on facilities development, operations and training and ensures that your aerial adventure aligns with your organization's values. 

What We Do

As a full-service company in the aerial adventure industry Synergo will make your adventure dreams a reality! Our in-house design and construction teams can deliver everything from intimate challenge courses to mile-long zipines while our training, inspection and equipment teams will make sure your staff are ready to operate, have the equipment they need and that your course is cared for long-term.

Building Adventure: We believe that outdoor adventure is good for the mind, body and spirit. It’s our responsibility to to design, build, maintain and improve our clients outdoor adventures so all people can enjoy safe, fun aerial adventures.

Inviting Change: Our roots are in the transformative power of group facilitation - using intentional activities, outdoors, led by caring staff to invite people to consider their connections to one another and their communities. Inviting change infuses all we do: how we build courses, the equipment we use, how we train staff and how we lead programs.

 
 

OUR LEADERSHIP TEAM

 
 
  • Jennifer graduated f rom the University of Connecticut with a degree in Child Development and Family Counseling. Her early work with the YMCA led to a career developing recreational programs serving youth and families before joining Erik at Synergo. Jennifer currently oversees client management; working with our Facilitation, Training, Inspection and Accounting Department heads to serve the needs of our clients. Jennifer handles all our contracting needs. Change orders and insurance inquiries are all within her purview.

  • With over 25 years of experience in the field, Erik’s career has been formative in the direction of our industry. He served for a number of years as the Board Chair of the Association for Challenge Course Technology and continues working on improving the standard setting organization. Erik actively consults in the creation of legislation affecting the challenge course and zip line industry; working with regulators in the states of Washington, Hawaii, Oregon and California to help guide their process in ensuring that challenge courses, adventure parks and commercial zip lines are being built and used appropriately. Erik is responsible for driving our projects forward in the right direction.

  • Nate has a degree in English Literature and a Masters in Outdoor Education that he’s put to work facilitating challenge courses, training teams and managing commercial tour operations. With over 20 years' experience at “camps” in a variety of roles he brings the end-user perspective to Synergo along with a deep understanding of what it takes to run a successful course. Nate specializes in operations consulting and has leadership roles in our partner companies, Pumpkin Ridge Zip Tour, Lanai Adventure Park and Action Photo Systems.

  • Kyle is in many ways a living product of our industry. Attending summer camps with challenge courses and ziplines starting at the age of ten, Kyle eventually became a counselor and facilitator. After graduating Columbia University in 2009, he moved to Portland, OR. He has been with Synergo for 10 years as a builder, facilitator, inspector, gear expert and project manager. Kyle ensures all departments in Synergo are in communication with one another and assists with higher level project management. Kyle is also responsible for commissioning processes of our projects.

  • Ezekiel has been with Synergo for six years and has worked in the aerial adventure industry for over decade, designing, building, fabricating and installing climbing towers, ziplines, aerial adventure parks and challenge courses. His portfolio includes upwards of 100 projects related to aerial adventure. As Director of our Construction Department, Zeke manages all aspects of a project’s scope, from design and layout on through to Acceptance Inspections. Throughout a build process, Zeke will be your primary point of contact.

  • Alex oversees the Training Department which is also responsible for creation of client operational documents. He has delivered over 4,000 hours of training and certification testing internationally. Alex creates custom trainings that develop trainees’ technical and interpersonal skills. His belief is that training is a critical piece in creating and shaping the culture of an organization.

  • Jason was born and raised in the First State of Delaware and has made his way across country to the other ocean after stops in 7 other states. He holds a degree in Outdoor Education with an emphasis in Ropes Course Management. After managing OE and CC programs at camps across the country, and a commercial zip tour in CdA, he has settled in with Synergo. He is married with 2 kiddos. He will gladly join you for a game of Spikeball if you’re every nearby itching for a game!
